On April 6, 2016, the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network (CBAN) informed Canadians that GM alfalfa has been sold for the first time ever in Canada and will be planted in Eastern Canada in 2016 on up to 5,000 acres of land, mostly in Quebec and Ontario. This is a new development that although anticipated, came sooner than planned. CBAN is calling citizens to take urgent actions (see more details below) to stop future sales of GM alfalfa.
